Range Qualification

Students must follow the instuctor
 instuctions at all times.  Any violation
 of saftey instructions will be
 cause for immediate removal
 from the class. No refunds

A total of 50 rounds are fired during
the course of the qualification test.

A score of 70%, or 175 points of a
possible 250, is required to pass.

The target used is a B-27 which is a
human-shaped silhouette target
measuring 45” by 24 inches.

All shooting is from the ready position,
which means the gun is already in your
hands and aimed in.

No holster shooting or shooting from
concealment is required or allowed.



The B-27 target is 45" high by 24" wide.
The inner scoring ring (8, 9, & X) is approximately 18" high by 12" wide and counts 5 points.
Shots within the next scoring ring (7) count 4 points, and hits in the outer target zone (green area) count 3 points.
Shots falling outside of the silhouette outline, green area, do not count.

You will not need to memorize times or round count each volley of fire the instructor will tell you what to do.

Course of Fire

3 yard line - 20 shots:

  • 1 shot   in 2 seconds per round, 5 times
  • 2 shots in 3 seconds per round, 5 times
  • 5 shots in 2 seconds per round, once

7 yard line - 20 shots:

  • 5 shots - 2 seconds per round, once
  • 1 shot -   2 seconds per round, 5 times
  • 2 shots - 2 seconds per round, once
  • 3 shots - 2 seconds per round, once
  • 5 shots - 3 seconds per round, once

15 yard line - 10 shots:

  • 2 shots - 3 seconds per round, once
  • 3 shots - 3 seconds per round, once
  • 5 shots - 3 seconds per round, once

Mandatory Equipment
NO manipulation or handling of weapons in parking lots!

  1. Eye protection
  2. Hearing protection required – muff type–to cover the ear and the area behind the ear is best - ear plugs minimum
  3. Best to have head cover - cap or hat that will cover the head and the area toward the face (such as a baseball cap)
  4. Footwear MUST cover the entire foot
  5. Wear a shirt with a collar to the range to prevent hot brass from going down your shirt.
  6. Handguns
    1. One handgun - 22 - 45 Caliber
    2. All handguns should be in good working condition and have no modification(s) that will make the handgun unsafe
    3. NO Laser Lights
    4. Be familiar with your handgun
    5. There is no time allotted for zeroing handgun in this class
  7. Ammunition– You will need a minimum of 50 rounds for each sidearm, as well as additional ammunition should you fail to qualify the first time.
